Chapter Three
The Resultant Fruit of Circulating Around the Stupa and Making Wishes
The king Trisong Deutsen again supplicate to master Padmasambhava: "Great master, please tell us if by prostrating at the great stupa, circulating around it, venerating, making offerings, and to clean up the great stupa, which is the gathering place of all the buddhas of the triple worlds, these will produce what type of merit and benefits?"
Master Padmasambhava answered: "Maharaja, you please listen carefully, all the buddhas and bodhisattvas of the triple worlds after their actual entering into this immaculate heart's mandala, the Maha Buddha Stupa can instantly and effortlessly fulfilled all wishes, because it has become the wish-fulfilling jewel. If there is sentient being with a pure heart prostrated to the great stupa, circulating around it, paying homage, the merit received will be inconceivable, immeasurable, even all the buddha of the triple worlds cannot speak of it, because the great buddha stupa's construction is for the sake of bringing sentient beings immeasurable joy. Because the great buddha stupa is the anuttara (Eng.: highest) mandala of all the buddhas' hearts of the triple worlds, as such it is also the joyful place of the worldly and world-transcending sentient beings. (Any wishes and prayers), regardless of whether of devas, or any others' wishes and prayers, all shall be perfectly fulfilled. Even for ultimate siddhi and supreme accomplishment, all can be perfected.
"This wish-fulfilling great stupa, Siayun Khasiaw Maha Buddha Stupa, the precious wish-fulfilling jewel, it will grant sentient beings all types of happiness. Those who can come to pay visit and to watch the great stupa, after death in the intermediate state's wandering period, the doors to the three lower realms shall be closed to them. If there is a man who can hear the melody of the great stupa, the seed of ultimate realization had already been planted in his heart. If there is a man who can clearly visualize the original essence of the great stupa, he shall no longer had any distraction by various afflictions, and be able to shiftly enter the samadhi state. If there is a man who closed both his palms and sincerely pay homage to the great stupa, he shall enter the path of truth.
"If there is a man who wish for power, if he made offering to the great stupa, he shall become the wheel-turner king. If there is a man who circulating the great stupa, he will receive the heaven's seven types of merit: Being reborn in high caste, with wonderful bodily form, possessing great peace and happiness, with character and wisdom, possessing power and glory, with no diseases and sicknesses, and possess longevity. If there is a man who made a wish to the great stupa, no matter if it is to request for oneself or to request for other. all can be instantly fulfilled. If there is a man who made offering to the abbot of the great stupa, in the future rebirth shall have no hunger, no thirst, no diseases and no illnesses. If there is a man who made offering to the great stupa with fragrance flowers, he will have auspiciousness and peace, and shall become wealthy, successful, with good health and longevity. If there is a man who made offering of incense to the great stupa, he shall receive immaculate activities (business and career). If there is a man who offer lamps, it shall shine brightly all darkness of ignorance. If there is a man who offered libation, shall be separated from affliction and painful suffering. If there is a man who offered food, shall accomplished samadhi and be separated from hunger."
"If there is a man who offered melody music to the great stupa, shall be able to propagate the sound of dharma throughout the ten directions. If there is a man who offered drum and melody sounds, shall obtain vast wisdom and prosperity. If there is a man who offer the sound of bell, shall obtain a soft and harmonious voice, which is the voice of brahma."
"If there is a man who made a mandala offering to the great stupa, shall received the discipline of samaya and wisdom, this is the resultant fruit of worldly behaviour and meditational practice. If there is a man who offered the mandala offering with the 5 precious jewels, i.e. gold, silver, jade, precious stone and pearls, shall be able to be separated from proverty and disaster, and dhall possess immeasurable wealth of jewelries and strange treasures. If there is a man who made the offering of mandala with the seven treasures, in the future life shall be reborn in heavenly realm enjoying the devas' seven types of meritorious karmic fruit. If there is a man with seven type of spices as mandala offering, shall be averted from any diseases and illnesses of the body, emotion and consciousnesses, and all the other deathly diseases and any illnesses. If there is a man made a mandala offering using his life's 5 types of essences, shall be averted from the 5 types of afflictions due to desire, anger, ignorance, pride and envy, and shall transform the 5 afflictive emotions into the 5 directional buddhas' wisdom kayas, i.e. buddha Amitabha, buddha Amogasiddhi, buddha Vajrasattva, buddha Ratnasambhava and buddha Vairochana. If there is a man with the 5 grains to make a mandala offering, shall received wholesome fruits of karmic retribution."
"If there is a man with 5 types of fragrance to offer the great stupa, shall have a beautiful bodily form, and beloved by all people. If there is a man with 5 type of libation as offering, shall received an immaculate living place, without any bad odor. If there is a man with 5 types of precious things as offering, shall accumulate merit, and shall increase power, glory, happiness and enjoyment. If there is a man with precious umbralla and victory banner as offering, shall have his desire removed and be respected by people. If there is a man with belt of silk and flag as offering, shall obtain peace, happiness, wealth and abundance, and shall be averted from the fear of water, fire, lion, elephant, revenge, pisonous snake, non-men and poisonous medicines. If there is a man with mala and precious crown as offering, shall receive the joy and happiness of men and devas, on his body shall be ornamented with the 7 jewelries. If there is a man with lamp as offering, shall be able to instantly see the real dharmadhatu of the ten directional Tathagatas. If there is a man with mustard seeds' oil as offering, shall be averted from dullness. If there is a man with butter oil lamp as offering, shall be able to shine brightly throughout the ten direction with dharma lamp."
"If there is a man with the dharma wheel to offer to the the great stupa, shall be able to turn the wheel of dharma. If there is a man who offered precious jewelries and ornaments, shall have his thoughts come true, his heart's wishes shall be like the way of huge falling rains quickly be actualize. If there is a man with the treasure of the queen as offering, shall enter the flow of the view. If there is a man with the high official's treasure as offering, shall become a learnt man, possessing skillful means and wisdom. If there is a man with the treasure of elephant as offering, shall penetrate deeply the realization of the indepth meaning of mahayana. If there is a man who can make an offering with the treasure of horse, shall be able to receive the nirmanakaya's four limps, faith, diligence, mindfulness and non-dual wisdom, which is faith, power, wisdom and skillful-means. If there is a man with the treasure of commander as offering, shall be able to subdued all enermies. If there is a man with the 7 types of king's palace treasure jewelries as offering, shall be able to subjugate the dharmadhatu. If there is a man with the 8 outer offerings, shall be able to enjoy the wealth and happiness of heavenly devas."
"If there is a person with garment made offering to the buddha statue or the great stupa's abbot and sangha, will be able to enjoy nice and comfortable clothing. If there is a person with white powder to brush the great stupa, shall obtain a clean, bright and moisturized skin complexion, and attained happiness, prosperity and health, and be able to command the devas, ghosts and spirits' hosts. If there is a person with cheese, milk, and butter oil to make offering, shall possess longevity cow and many animals. If a person with sugar, honey to make offering, shall obtain the meals of heavenly devas. If there is a person who can used the fruit juice to make offering, he shall enjoy various precious delicious meal. If there is a person who make offering with beverage and food in the puja ceremony, shall be able to attain the ultimate accomplishment and strength of siddhis, and within his consciousness's various types of potential shall be able to actualize. If there is a person with 5 types of scented fragrance to make offering, shall be able to shine brightly others' dullness and stupidity, and shall be reborn in high chaste family, with a mind of clarity."
"If there is a person with sublime lotus seat to make offering, shall be able to be naturally reborn from a lotus' bud, with nice bodily form, and shall obtain the fearless lions' precious seat. If there is a person at the great stupa, sponsoring dharma activities, shall be averted from the affliction of the three lower realms, and shall be able to have health, wealth and merit. If there is a person who can practice dharma to offer all the buddhas, shall received the great strength of buddhadharma activities. If there is a person who can swipe, clean up the dust of the great stupa, shall be able to possess a body which is clear, shinning brilliantly and clean. If there is a person who can repair, rebuild the great stupa, shall be able to remove the seed of ignorance and root sources. If there is a person who thought of realizing self-essence, should transform his self-clinging into the emptiness-essence of the great stupa, then he shall be able to obtain the mahamudra realization equaled to the Vajradhara. If there is a person who thought of becoming a guru or good leader, should enter the natural state. If able to make offering to the great stupa, he will also be able to obtain power of authority."
"If there is a person who can renovate the great stupa, will be able to complete the buddha's four karmas, accomplishing all aims, and shall attain the highest realization. If there is a person who can make bricks for the wall, shall become the wheel-turner king, ruling the whole world. If there is a person who carry the gravel and rocks, shall be able to pacified all life-threatening danger and disaster, his whole life shall be healthy and beautiful. If there is a person who thought of purifying his three doors, shall be able to receive all the buddhas' trikaya empowerment. If there is a person who make good friends, following the ten virtuous paths, shall never be lacked of guidance of holy person of good wisdom, he shall be able to do his best in all circumstances. If there is a person who can direct the great stupa's renovation process, shall be reborn as the top head of the ten directional bodhisattvas, and concentrate on buddhadharma activities. If there is a person who can making offering by mean of the seven branch prayer ritual, even if he cannot come to visit (the sacred stupa), shall also be able to have seven lives endowed with the perfect human bodies, and shall be able to remember his previous lives. If there is a person who can give other people beneficial advice, shall be able to receive vast learning. If there is a person who can teach other, then in the present life and in future lives, his words and explaination, other people will surely obeyed. If there is a person who can filled up the pits and cracks of the great stupa, shall be reborn in heaven or human realm, and shall be able to realize the deepest view."
"If there is a person who live near the great stupa, who always make wishes to the great stupa, shall be able to realize the deathless and unborn. If there is a person who forever live at the side of the great stupa to recite sutra, shall not face any threats of hunger or war and conflicts. If there is a king who for a long time ruled in this place, the whole country shall be peaceful, the people will have harmony and happiness. If there is a person who recite mantra to benefit others, and who displayed the virtuous conducts of bodhisattva, shall be able to receive the merits of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas. If there is a person who heard the buddhadharma and explained its meaning to others, shall be like all the buddhas of the triple worlds. If there is a person who can cause the great stupa be prevented from damages, shall be able to avert untimely death. If there is a person who use the great stupa to draw and create a model, shall be able to be reborn in pure land, until attaining realization. If there is a person who write the legend of the great stupa or the history of bodhisattva, the merit he receives shall be like writing the whole tripitaka sutras. If there is a person who realize the joy of living, shall receive the spring water of all the buddhas' merit. If there is a person who request to the great stupa for the flow of great bliss, shall be able to obtain the blessing empowerment of all the ten directional buddhas. If there is a person whether intentionally or unintentionally visualized the great stupa, shall be able to be reborn within lotus' bud of the western paradise."
"If there is a person with evil intent damage the great stupa, shall in this life and the next met with various types of painful sufferings. And shall receive the evil retribution of the avici (Eng.: borderless) hell, without the possibility of liberation and rest for breath."
"The great stupa is like the wish-fulfilling jewel: If there is sentient beings who make any wish to request for the anuttara (Eng.: highest) wisdom, or for other wishes, they shall definitely be accorded. All wishes shall be able to actualize. The great stupa also named as 'The perfection of all wishes (Tib.: Maylanshen Cheychupa) Maha Buddha Stupa."
When master Padmasambhava finished saying, the king Trisong Deutsen and the hosts of high officials were uncomparably astonished and touched. Their faith increased, and rejoiced with tears. Their bodies fell to the ground, and prostrated to master Padmasambhava for a thousand times, and recited the supplication prayer below:
"Ema ho! The Maha Buddha Stupa's great merit even all the buddhas have difficulties in describing, inconceivable, indestructible. May in life after life all of us be able to receive the grace of the great stupa, and with the emptiness of space and all things within the emptiness of sky, we make offerings."
