Chapter One
The Construction and Empowerment of the Maha Buddha Stupa
This is Chiayun Khashiaw (meaning: permission to speak and act, which mean the permission to build and construct) Maha Buddha Stupa's history, within it contained infinite immaculate kayas (Eng.: bodies), equaled to the hearts of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directional and 3 times. At the year of the fire-sun monkey in the monkey month of the tenth day, in the great Samye monastery's great hall, Samye mean inconceivable, nonchanging, self-born. The great dharma king Trisong Deutsen and Guru Padmasambhava's 25 great disciples were gathered in one hall, ready to receive the entering of the Guru ultimate secret heart's initiation (Tib.: Lama Yansa Dhuzhitzhu). The people together supplicate the precious Urgein Rinpoche Mahaguru Padmasambhava, to arise upon the dharma seat covered with 9 pieces of precious cushions, and to receive the various types of delicious meals collected from various places of the world, the king's neck wearing 21 precious jades, 5 golden cups, 7 bowls of gold, 8 pieces of silk garments, and many, many other precious treasuries.
The king after prostrating to the master for 1,000 times, said: "Great master, I was born in Tibet, this is the wild country lived by the red-faced monkeys, and I have invited the great scholar Bodhisattva Sianzhitla Kashrida from Daho, and you Urgein Mahaguru Padmasambhava to the Land of Snow, to establish the buddhadharma. I also build the great Samye monastery, in the monastery's three jewels possessing all the sentient beings accumulated merits, at Southern Jambudi, this is incomparable. I have completed these things. Now in this wild Land of Snow like in the Island of darkness, the buddhadharma of the 3 jewels is like the morning rising sun on the top of the mountain shining, and all the people were able to listen to the explaination of buddhadharma, like the same situation during the golden age of buddhadharma, when Mahakasyapa buddha at Makada region propagating the buddhadharma."
"When Mahakasyapa buddha was propagating dharma, the female protectoress Siachitma (meaning: chicken-rearing woman) has 4 sons, at the inner border of Nepal's Makuda region, she builded the Siayun Khasiaw (wish-fulfilling) Maha Buddha Stupa. Ah! Great master, if you can tell us the merit producing the faith of building this Maha Buddha Stupa, then we have already completed the great Samye monastery, with this we can understand how to make aspiration, in the future we will possess complete faith. In order for us to arise the heart of faith, I supplicate Guru to tell us precisely the fruits of auspicious karma of building Siayun Khasiaw Maha Buddha Stupa."
The Great master Padmasambhava answered: "Maharaja, listen carefully and remember my words. I shall tell you the history and the wish-fulfilling Mahabuddha Stupa. In the past infinite aeons, the Mahabodhisattva Avalokitesvara vowed before guru buddha Amitabha, that he shall cause all sentient beings to be liberated from within the afflictions of cycling existence. After having delivered countless sentient beings, bodhisattva Avalokitesvara thought that all sentient beings should already being delivered. He climbed up to the top of Bhutala palace. When he look down, he saw within the six realms, there are still infinite sentient beings crying in the lower realms, like the flies in the pile of rubbish. Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara felt that the thought of causing all sentient beings to be liberated from the afflictions in the great ocean of samsara, this was almost impossible, bodhisattva Avalokitesvara's tears dropped. With his index finger he wiped two drops of tear and vowed that he wish these two drops of tear will be able to help the sentient beings of the future to be liberated from afflictions. As a result, like the vow made by bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, the 2 tear drops transformed into the two daughters of Indra of the 33 heavens. One was named Phurna (meaning: perfection), the other was named Aphurna (meaning: not perfect)."
"At one time, Aphurna stolen some flowers, as such was punished and reborned in the human realm. She was born in Nepal's Makuda region, her father was a chicken-rearer, whose name was Anshu. Her mother's name was Phurna. She was being named as the chicken-rearing girl Sianwala. When she grow up, with four lower chaste persons having a relationship, with each of them, she bear their child. The first son was bear with a horse-rearer, the second son was bear with a pig-rearer, the third son was bear with a dog-rearer, the fourth son was bear with a chicken-rearer."
"The chicken-rearing woman Sianwala's business earned a lot of money, as such she was able to rear the four sons, and allowed them to receive very good education. She gradually became richer and richer, and thought to herself: "My chicken-rearing income has enable my sons to establish their families and careers. Now I have accumulated a lot of wealth, in order to enable all the people to be benefitted, I shall build a great buddha stupa, this is the gathering place of the immaculate hearts of all the ten directional buddhas. This shall become a place where immeasurable sentient beings will be able to get close and rejoice. Furthermore, it shall be the storage place of all the buddhas' indestructible relics. But I must first request tthe king's permission."
"The chicken-rearing woman think as such, and came to the place of the king, she prostrated to the king, circulating around him and kneed down with two palms closed together, she told the king: "Maharaja (Eng.: great king), I'm a pitiful chicken-rearing woman. By my own diligence, I rear chicken to nurture the 4 sons of different fathers, today they all established their own family and career. I supplicate maharaja to permit me to build a maha buddha stupa. This is my own buddha nature's shadow emanation, and also the place where immeasurable sentient beings shall rejoice, also the resting place of all the buddhas' immaculate hearts, also the storage place of the ten directional buddhas' indestructible relics. I shall use the wealth I have accumulated after my sons have grow up, to build the buddha stupa."
"The king possessing wisdom will not make decision in a hurry. The king was thinking in his heart: "This chicken-rearing woman is pitiful, she uses her own income to nurture the four sons, now she even wish to build a great stupa. This is inconceivable."
"As such the king allowed the old woman to build the great stupa. The chicken rearing-woman Sianwala's heart was filled with joy and satisfaction, she once again prosptrated to the king and circulating around him many time before she leave. The old woman with the 4 sons, a donkey and a big elephant, together they build the great buddha stupa. They transported the soil, laid the ground foundation, the wall has been build up to the third storey."
"At this time, the Nepal people started to gather together, they arised great resentment toward the old woman, because the old woman great aspiration causing them to feel dishonoured. They argued to each other: "If a poor chicken-rearing woman can build a great buddha stupa, then the king and the great officials, and those with money and power, what should they do?" They thought that they themselves have received a very great dishonour, the people gathered at the king's place, and request the king to stop the construction process: "Maharaja, you are wrong. If a poor chicken-rearing woman can build a great buddha stupa, then the maharaja you and the great officials, and all the wealthy people in the whole country, what shall they do? If you allow this construction process to proceed, we will all be receiving dishonour due to this. The best is to be able to transport back the gravel and stone back to their own place. The chicken-rearing woman should not be permitted to build the great buddha stupa."
The king said to them: "Listen carefully! This pitiful chicken-rearing woman working hard, with her income she nurtured 4 sons, and has accumulated enough wealth to construct the great buddha stupa. I consider this as a great accomplishment. I gave her my words, to permit her to build the great buddha stupa. The king will not eat his own words."
"Other people have tried to prevent the construction process of the great buddha stupa, but were not successful. As such the great buddha stupa was called 'Chiayun Khasiaw', which mean 'already have obtain the permission to construct, which cannot be stopped by any obstacles'. This construction process was regardless of autumn or winter, it has continued for four years, until it has completed the great stupa's neck area."
"But at this time, the pitiful chicken-rearing woman knew she will soon die, as such she called her four sons and servant to come, and told them: "You shall continue to finish this great buddha stupa. This is my buddha-nature's display, and shall become the joyful place for worldly, and world-transcending sentient beings. After completion, the ten directional Tathagatas' indestructible relics shall be stored inside, it shall be empowered with the most sincere heart of veneration and glory. This is my wish. After you have completed the great buddha stupa, the great meritorious activities of all the buddhas of the three worlds, of past, present and future, shall be able to attain accomplishment. And you would have accomplished your destiny of this life and the life to come."
"Immediately after finish saying, the old woman passed away. In the sky the drum sounded, the devas scattering rains of flowers, the sky filled with rainbow lights. The pityful old woman Sianwala, due to her great heart of building the great buddha stupa, has attained the fruit of Buddhahood, whose name was Chianse, Lamo, Chansia. The four sons faithfully guiding their promise to their mother. In order to repay the kindness of their mother, and also to accomplish the great merit, they agreed to continue to finish the buddha stupa, and have added the top storey portion. As before, the four sons use the great elephant and donkey to carry the bricks and rocks to continue their work. They have continued for three years, finally the great buddha stupa was completed, all together they spend seven years. The Mahakasyapa buddha's indestructible relics was placed inside the great stupa's tree of life."
"After the wholesome offerings and flowers every where have been prepared, Mahakasyapa buddha within the surrounding mist of all the sangha, appeared covering the whole of the sky in front of the buddha stupa. Under the surrounding of all the ten directional buddhas, bodhisattvas, and immeasurable Arahats, the five directional buddha' families, all devas and immeasurable peaceful and wrathful yidams, like the seasame flowers' buds, they appeared in this place, throwing fresh flowers, they came together to celebrate this great moment. The sound of drums continued unbroken, the devas scattered flowery rains, every where were filled will incense and fragrance scent. The great earth shaken three times. All buddhas' bodies emanating brilliant lights, which covered the sun's light, and dispelled away the darkness for five days."
